The Alytus Regional Development Council is one of the founding members of the Network of the Three Seas Regions.
Alytus Region Development Council is a non-profit public legal entity established by municipalities of Alytus City, Alytus District, Druskininkai, Lazdijai District and Varena District in March of 2021. The purpose of the Alytus Regional Development Council is to plan and coordinate the implementation of the national regional policy in the Alytus region, to promote social, economic, and sustainable development of the region, to reduce social and economic differences in the region, and to promote the cooperation of municipalities to increase the efficiency of the organization of public service provision and to represent the region. The Council’s mission is to create conditions for decent, active, safe, healthy, and attractive life and work in the Alytus region.
Alytus region is located in southern Lithuania, in a strategically attractive place – at the intersection of Poland and Belarus. Alytus region, which consists of 5 aforementioned municipalities, is the most forested in Lithuania and stands out from other regions of the country for its abundance of state-protected territories, natural uniqueness, cultural traditions, ecological balance, development of traditional businesses, and various types of tourism in good conditions. The economic center of the region is Alytus, which has an industrial park and is attractive for industrial development.
Alytus region is attractive for the development of incoming and local tourism. One of the advantages of the Alytus region is the Druskininkai resort, which has a fully developed infrastructure of accommodation, wellness, recreation, and exclusive entertainment services. Druskininkai is home to one of Europe’s largest indoor ski tracks “Snow Arena”, and the most modern Lithuanian sports center in the Baltic States, where Olympians and other professional athletes train and various sports events take place. About half a million tourists per year visit the Druskininkai resort.
